Long story short, TOAD-Scan software is very practical to say the least. I tried unsuccessfully to get the EVAP ready, upon more research I found that I could have 1 monitor not ready so I took it in for smog and passed! If you have a 1996 and up model of car, make SURE you check out obdiiDOTcom for your car's drive cycle or else driving your car a lot of miles will not trigger some tests it needs in order to ready your monitors. Well I decided to do a cold soak bypass which means I let the car sit overnight for 8 hours for it to completely cool down since EVAP can only run tests the first 30 minutes of the engine being on. After doing this, I pulled over, turned the car off and turned it back to the on position with the scanner plugged in, I ran the tests and now CAT was ready as well, just needed EVAP to be ready.
I took this up to the hills and drove straight. This means I needed to run 2 minutes at 25 mph, then 2 minutes at 30 mph then 2 minutes at 35 mph, etc. Doing a little research I found that my Ford Falcon needed a specific drive cycle to get the catalyst and evap ready, the catalyst was difficult to do on the highway as I had to run the car from 25-45 miles per hour during a 10 minute period and no steep hills or sharp turns. What they did not tell me was that every car maker has their specific drive cycle which triggers these tests for the computer to get the monitors ready for smog inspection. Problem is, the smog shop told me to ride the car for 120 miles and bring it back for smog. I got every system to be ready for smog except 2 (Catalyst Monitor and Evaporative Monitor).

If you need a good inexpensive diagnosis and reset tool, this is it. Had I bought the various apps, etc I had originally planned on, I'd have spent WAY more than I needed to to fix the problem.
Sure enough, the problem was simple a broken wire at the connection and I was able to repair it on my own in less than ten minutes for no cost other than this unit. In the end, I searched the codes online and came up with a sensor name and location. powered by the car (no batteries needed) - detected the codes fine - reset the codes easily Cons - the cord was shorter than I'd have like but worked fine.
